Hermanos / Brothers

How is it that, having grown up in the same environment and received the same education, both have such different reactions to certain stimuli? Well, I guess that's one of those questions that parents always ask themselves.
The two share an unbridled passion for music. However, the younger one remains motionless in his seat during the entire performance, without moving a single muscle and almost unblinking, entranced by the wonder that is developing on the boards of the stage.
The elder, meanwhile, seized with uncontrollable euphoria, stirs, gestures, smiles, expresses his enthusiasm by continually changing position. What exact time of our lives is it when we lose the ability of fascination that we as children
had?

El aristócrata / the aristocrat

The old building seems to wrinkle his nose in disapproval of the rude manners of his young neighbors.
His haughty decadent aristocrat contrasts sharply to the prevailing vulgarity in the neighborhood.

"Civility", he seems to claim in an authoritative voice from the squamous cupola that crowns the corner. A disused word today. However, nobody seems to listen, busy as they all are with their pressing worldly matters.

And yet, as good old it is, has many lessons to teach us if we listen.
The exquisite refinement in which he turns the corner, for example, nothing to do with the way in which the adjacent hotel proclaims its function, loudly.
Or the courtesy with which we are guided by him, pointing north, in the event that we have lost. In a display of kindness he even indicates the direction of the wind; their neighbors, however, make an ostentatious display of technology. Just as someone in a meeting taking his cell phone out and speaking in a loud voice thoughtlessly, they exhibit their TV antennas or air conditioning units in a completely blatant and ostentatious manner, unrelated to any disapproval that might raise.
If we want things to stay as they are, things will have to change, was the motto of the Prince of Salina in Il Gattopardo, its strategy to adapt and survive in a changing world. I fear that our nobleman is too old to adapt to its changing environment. And its neighborhood is too insensitive to assimilate the wisdom teachings of the venerable teacher.
After all, if we look at prejudice, the meaning of civility in the dictionary, we see that means: courtesy, politeness, attention and good way.

Pareja inquietante / disturbing couple

strange couple

Long waits sometimes cause trance states in which the everyday and inanimate becomes disturbing and alive. At such times, if no one stops us back to the underworld, we begin to explore strange mirages created by the mind.

In one of these states I fell while drawing these two machines in a large and empty waiting room. Being the ideal time for sketching, I began to draw lines on the notebook when I suddenly began to think about the two figures that motionless, stood side by side, but whose eyes are never touched, rather looked in the same direction. As in Gibran's poem.

From there on, given the similarities between them, it was logical to start being more aware of the differences. The cold technology began to show almost human qualities ... Who calls the shots? Do they hold a good relationship? I began to feel some antipathy for the smaller figure. Although apparently innocuous, I started to dislike the way in which he  squeezes his taller companion against the wall, perhaps jealous of the more talkative of him. (Is not that what it seems from his glassed inside?) I am becoming aware that there may be a latent drama in the scene I see.

Just then a group of children breaks the reverie. At least the drawing is finished.
